Solutions for cyclist and pedestrian counting and data analysis.

Onboarding series: Letter #4

How to :

  • Add widgets (Professional & Expert Packages)
  • Understand trends
  • Capture weekly usage patterns
  • Calculate growth rates over time (Professional & Expert Packages)

Hey and welcome back to our training program on how to get started with Eco-Counter systems.

In this email - part 4 of 8 - we talk about how to get the most out of your data and how you can use Eco-Visio to perform simple analyses on your bike and pedestrian count data.

Adding widgets

onlinehelp2

Think of dashboards as white pages that you will populate with different types of visual data - widgets. Adding a new widget is easy! After running an analysis, click the green button below to add it to one of your dashboards. From here, you will be prompted to choose the title and the location where you want your widget to appear. Done!

Understanding trends

With the help of Eco-Visio, you can easily create hourly, daily, weekly, monthly or yearly overviews of aggregated count data.

To do this, first log into your Eco-Visio account. Click on the Analysis tab, select:
-The period
-Counting Sites
-Profile Analysis option.

There you can select the timebase, and other criteria like user type, direction, channel under 'Options'.

Capturing weekly usage patterns

Weekly (day-by-day) analysis allows you to understand how bike and pedestrian counts differ throughout the week, including daily peaks and weekly volume trends.

Weekly usage pattern
Looking at daily count data on the left, a commuting trend becomes evident. The daily average number of pedestrians counted is higher during the week than on the weekend.

Meanwhile, cyclist numbers remain fairly consistent throughout the week.
This indicates a clear preference for walking among commuters.
To do this, once again go to the Analyses page => Profile, choose a site (in the above example we used a counter that includes both bike and pedestrian data), set the 'profile type' to 'Daily'.

You can keep the period as default or set it to other options, like 'Current Month', 'Last Month', 'Rolling Year' and much more.

Calculate growth rates over time

For Professional and Expert users there is a simple widget in Eco-Visio, that can display the percent change in bike or pedestrian counts from one month to the next.

Under Dashboard Analysis, add the "key figure" widget to your report and then set the parameters: the reference period, the trend to analyze, and the calculated value (for example:  rolling month, previous period and daily average).

Once finalized, you will see the evolution of daily counts between two successive monthly periods.

By 'creating a widget' from this analysis, the data will be added to your dashboard and will be there already, updated, every time you log into the platform!

Example: In this case, we see that daily average bike counts have increased by 6.5% compared to the previous period.
